INSPIRED by the permanently at-war Gallagher Brothers, Kent’s Sammie and Kris Harris have set about creating their own musical legacy.

The sibblings from Sheppey formed their own band, Touriste, last year and have just released their exceptionally polished self-penned debut single What Are We.

This comes off the back of 17-year-old Sammie winning a national songwriting competition judged by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Part of his prize included some invaluable industry tutoring from Mercury Prize founder John Webster.

Following a well received debut show at Liverpool’s Barfly in January they have gone on to play a number of dates in Kent and London.

As his elder brother Kris, 22, explained, after forging their debut single with veteran producer Jim Riley, they feel in confident form approaching their latest round of live dates.

"We recorded our single in five days and it came out so much better than we expected, we’d borrowed quite a lot of money from various people to get it done. Working with Jim was great and made us want to do an album with him."

Theirs is indeed a sound which could carry them far with the right backing. With strong nods to Coldplay and Snow Patrol, they have infused their music with some added bite which much of today’s indie music is lacking.

"We fight as much as we get on as brothers, but we are able to get over these things instantly. There’s no-one else we could be in a band with," he explains of the group’s relationship.

Though the music has plenty of pure pop melodies there is a sense of frustration in some of their sounds which bass-player and songwriter Kris, admits has been partially bourn of their early surroundings.

"In Sheppey you either play football or eat a kebab," he quips of the family’s home.

Undeterred, the lads teamed up with fellow band-mates Rober Wilks and Michael Dove and are detirmined to succeed in the business. They are keenly awaiting three local gigs in Sittingbourne and Gillingham.

"There are a lot of good bands in Kent and we want to be more a part of the scene. But it’s been hard as it seems that unless you went to college with them a lot of bands don’t want to know - we’re happy for anyone to play with us."
