Ahead of the car hitting the showrooms in July, Toyota has announced details of its new Auris HSD hybrid model.

Taking the technology behind the firm's Prius hybrid into the family hatchback sector, this British-built car boasts CO2 emissions from 89g/km and a 74.3mpg economy figure.

Zero-rated for UK road tax, on-the-road prices start from £18,950 for the T4 variant and rise to £20,700 for the flagship T Spirit model.

The car's 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and electric motor generate a maximum 134bhp, delivering a 0-62mph acceleration time of 11.4 seconds and a top speed of 112mph.
