A WOMAN who died when a train hit her as she stood on the track at Barming yesterday was aged 60 and lived the Maidstone area, it has been revealed.

The driver of the 9.18am service from London Victoria to Canterbury West reported striking the woman just after 10.20am as the train passed through the Hermitage Lane bridge west of Barming Station.

The woman, who has not yet been named, died at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Services were suspended in both directions while the body was recovered.

The line was completely closed between West Malling and Maidstone East and buses were arranged to go to Otford and Maidstone East stations to provide a shuttle service around the closed section.

Power was restored to the line at 11.48am, and the train was moved forward to Maidstone East at 11.58am, where 20 passengers were taken off the train.

The train was taken out of service. Trains began running again before midday, but there was still some disruption during the afternoon.
