Trains are running through east Kent again today after a three-day gas leak was fixed.

Southeastern said a normal service was due to resume between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Canterbury West this morning.

It comes after Southern Gas Networks last night fixed the leak that had disrupted services since Monday evening.

Charles Horton, Southeastern’s managing director, yesterday said patience was "wearing thin" and that he shared the frustration of customers.

Replacement bus services were laid on between Ashford and Canterbury amid warnings it was too dangerous to operate trains.

Engineers were working around the clock to investigate the leak, which was coming from an 18" cast iron gas main.

The job was said to be particularly difficult due to its proximity to the railway tracks near Whitehall Road, Canterbury.
