Travellers have left a plot of land today after a parish council threatened to call in the police to remove them.

The group, who own a mixture of 15 caravans and camper vans, moved in late afternoon on Sunday, September 4, after a community day was held on St Mary's Recreation Ground in St Mary's Road, Swanley.

Swanley Town Council issued the travellers with an order saying they must leave by noon today.

Chris Drake, assistant clerk at the council, said: "They basically barged their way on as colleagues were taking things out after the fun day.

"If they don't leave by noon then we would ask the police to support us with removing them from the site."

The police did arrive but the travellers had moved off peacefully by 1pm.
