Travellers sites to get makeover

TWO travellers' sites in Bromley will be refurbished.

Bromley council's executive has agreed to carry out essential repairs and build more pitches at Star Lane, St Mary Cray, and Old Maidstone Road, between Foots Cray and Swanley.

The council also plans to take back ownership of the sites while applying for an improvement grant from the Government.

Cllr David McBride, whose Cray Valley East Ward covers both sites, said repairs were overdue and that no more than five additional pitches should be built.

He said: "It is essential that these sites are now well managed and looked after by all concerned. I will be looking to see that the licences are being stuck to by residents and complaints addressed quickly and efficiently by the Council."

Cllr McBride added that he would have concerns if any more than the five additional pitches spread across the sites were planned.

"I think five is what the sites can take and no more," he said.
