THE parents-in-law of the most senior British Army officer killed in Afghanistan have paid tribute to him.
Peter and Carol Harris-Deans, from West Stourmouth, near Canterbury, said they were proud of Maj Alexis Roberts’ achievements and would cherish the good times they had as a family.
Maj Roberts' widow, Susie, 30, travelled to RAF Lynham today for a repatriation ceremony for the officer, who served with 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles and was known as Lex.
Mr Harris-Deans said: "We were delighted when Susie married Lex and were proud of his achievements.
"We will remember with pleasure all the good times we had together with him as a family."
Maj Roberts was killed by an improvised explosive device after commanding a convoy of vehicles during operations that were returning to base near Kandahar.
