Shocked college students watched helplessly as one of their fellow students died after falling from a horse.

Scott Angel, a student at Hadlow College, died on Monday, after tumbling from his horse during a lesson at 1.45pm.

The Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance and a land ambulance crew were on the scene within minutes.

However, despite desperate resuscitation attempts by paramedics, he suffered a traumatic cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Scott had been studying for an extended diploma in equine management.

In a statement released through the college, Scott’s parents spoke of his love of horses and how happy he was to be studying at the Maidstone Road college in Hadlow.

They said: “He was a happy-go-lucky and fun-loving boy who always wanted to help others. He will be sadly missed.”

College principal Paul Hannan said: “Scott was a dedicated and popular student whose sudden death has devastated the entire college. We are doing everything possible to support Scott’s family, his tutors and many friends.”

A spokesman said staff and students throughout the college were shocked and deeply saddened by Scott’s sudden death.

Scott’s friends have paid tribute to him on the Kent Messenger’s website.

Matthew Clarke said: “Scott Angel was my best friend.
“He died doing what he loved, to myself I make him as a hero, a close friend and close like a brother. R.I.P mate.”

And Katie Boynton added: “Scott was an absolutely amazing boy that had an amazing attitude towards life. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone, he was always positive about life and will be missed by everyone.”
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed and a post mortem was due to take place this week.
