A teenager who was killed in a car crash near Meopham has been named.

Rob Cooter, from Gravesend, was driving along Wrotham Road (A227) between Istead Rise and Meopham when his Vauxhall Corsa hit a telegraph pole and overturned late on Sunday evening.

It was found on its roof in a ditch near the junction with Nash Bank, but the 17-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

Since the tragedy tributes have been flooding in from his friends and family on a social networking site.

Writing on the wall of the In Loving Memory of Robert Cooter group, Sophie Velvick wrote: "Ive been thinking about what to say, and no words come to mind, every part of me is still in shock. all i can say is i hope rob has gone to a better place. my thoughts go out to all of his family and close friends. College will defently never be the same with such a big part missing. Rest In Peace Rob x x x x"

Police kept the A227 closed until 5.30am on Monday while crash investigators worked at the scene and debris was removed from the site.
