'Trigger' joins fight to save Dreamland

COMEDY actor Roger Lloyd Pack, who plays Trigger in the TV hit show Only Fools and Horses, has joined the campaign to save Dreamland fun park at Margate and its historic roller coaster.

He said: “I support the campaign unequivocally. An amusement park is far more important to Margate than another development or hotel. The needs of Margate should be respected more than filling the pockets of a greedy developer."

The 1989 Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special, 'Jolly Boy's Outing', was filmed in Margate and featured extensive footage of the cast enjoying Dreamland's attractions.

Campaign leader Nick Laister said: "It is great to have someone as popular and high profile as Roger on board. His message to Margate's decision makers is a clear one, and I hope this will help to drive the message home. “

The attraction is to close at the end of this summer season and the Stadium Group has been announced as potential developer of a retail and leisure complex on the seafront site. Owner Jimmy Godden says dwindling visitor figures had forced his decision to close Dreamland at the end of this summer season.

Thanet council, the developers and Dreamland Leisure Limited have pledged “a full commitment to public consultation on any plans”.
