Listen out for some big summer anthems on kmfm. It is always going to be a hard thing to match the success of a mega hit and Maroon 5 know that. Moves Like Jagger still is a mammoth anthem and I mentioned last week that they will be back with a new hit. Payphone will be exactly that.
I have three things to say about Katy Perry. One, I love her, two, I love her and three she does not stop giving us hit after hit. Her new offering is called Wide Awake. It is about a break up and, of course, critics are automatically going to suggest the lyrics are about Katy’s ex Russell Brand.
Perhaps, there are some elements, as Katy says major life changes were an inspiration. Having said that, the song was specifically written for her forthcoming movie.
My new favourite song is from Labrinth. Express Yourself is one of those tunes with a ditty beat that will hook you in and have you turning it up loud. I can hear the song right now as I am typing. “Exxxxpress, yourself.” You may remember he sang this song about a month ago on one of the Britain’s Got Talent shows. The track samples an old Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band song from 1971. Quite a mouthful of band. Can you imagine the X Factor voiceover man introducing them? Express Yourself is also one of the big summer 2012 tunes.
This year is all about the anthem. Cheryl, Carly Rae Jepson, Tulisa and Train. Here are the 10 most requested songs that kmfm are playing you right now are:
1. Cheryl – Call My Name
2. David Guetta – Titanium
3. Fun – We Are Young
4. Jessie J – Laserlight
5. Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know
6. Train – Drive By
7. Katy Perry – Part Of Me
8. The Saturdays – Thirty Days
9. The Wanted – Chasing The Sun
10. Tulisa – Young
As well as the anthems, this summer is all about the big Kent concerts. The Hop Farm and Lounge on the Farm are both going to be two of the biggest talked about musical events. Even Bruce Forstyth is in on the action with his own band at Paddock Wood and to have Emeli Sande in the county in Canterbury for Lounge on the Farm is going to cause a big buzz.
Bring on the summer!
