Two accused of cultivating cannabis

A 21-year-old unemployed man from Wood Green, London, and a 16-year-old boy are due to appear in court today charged with cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity.

The pair were arrested early yesterday by a Medway police patrol called to a three bedroom-terrace house in Hillside, Chatham, following a report of suspicious activity. Police say 118 cannabis plants were found at the property.

A red Nissan Micra was located in nearby Park Crescent and two males in the vehicle were arrested. They are due to appear before magistrates in Medway.

Sgt Craig West, whose team were responsible for the arrests, said: "We are asking residents to be on the look-out for signs of cannabis houses and report any suspicions they have to us.

"Signs to be aware of include permanently covered windows, people visiting the property at unusual times and a pungent smell coming from the house.

"All calls to us are fully researched and will be treated in the strictest confidence."
