Firefighters had to cut two men from the car they were travelling in after it ploughed into the front door of a house.

The incident, at 10.30pm Friday in Lower Rainham Road, Gillingham resulted in the driver, thought to be in his 20s, being arrested.

He escaped with no serious injuries and was later bailed pending further enquiries.

Two passengers were taken to hospital after firefighters and two pumps from Medway used cutting equipment to remove the side and roof of the vehicle.

Police later confirmed neither of the passengers suffered "life threatening or life changing" injuries.

The occupants of the house escaped unhurt but were ordered by police to leave the property.

Although unwilling to comment, the resident said she had been told by building control officers her home was unsafe and would have to seek alternative accommodation.

The front door was completely destroyed in the crash.

A Medway firefighter said: "The back of the car was in the front of the house.

"A man in the front passenger seat had neck and chest injuries and the rear passenger had chest and leg injuries, they were lucky to be alive."

The pumps left the scene at around 12.30am Saturday.
