Two people have died after being hit by trains in Kent.

British Transport Police confirmed the fatalities in a tweet offering condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

The police force wrote: "After two sad fatalities on Kent’s railways this weekend, our PC DJ is planning a 24 hour DJ challenge raising money for Kent Mind Mental Health. Our thoughts are with the two families."

The first was in the High Brooms area between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells on the Hastings line. Passengers had to use buses instead.

Officers were called to the High Brooms railway station at 10.27am after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics attended however a man was pronounced dead a short time later.

The second incident was in the afternoon between Maidstone East and Otford. Trains had to be diverted via Paddock Wood for several hours.

Officers were called to a line near Kemsing railway station at 3.23pm after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics attended however a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither incidents are being treated as suspicious.

The BTP officer raising money from Kent Mind Mental Health is using the internet site Mind Mix via Mixcloud.
