THE controversial scheme to build the "two towers" blocks of luxury flats at Chatham Maritime may be revived.

A spokesman for the South East England Development Agency – SEEDA – which owns the site, confirmed that it is in talks with the developer Ardmore over the scheme.

Earlier this year, the project, designed by award-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre, was cancelled by ING Real Estate, citing escalating costs as the reason.

Ardmore, a major construction company, was part of the original development team. Reports that the company has bought out the contract from ING have not been confirmed.

Called Chatham Quays, the original scheme comprises two giant towers, 19 and 16 storeys high, bars, restaurants, shops and a health club.

The tallest of the towers would be higher than any other building in Kent.
