Tyres go up in flames

FIREFIGHTERS from all over mid and west Kent were called to deal with a huge tyre blaze at the weekend.

The fire, which also took hold of trees and undergrowth at Exedown Road, near Wrotham Hill, broke out just after 8.30 on Friday. Fire crews from Larkfield, Tonbridge, Seal, and Sevenoaks were called to the scene and later joined by firefighters from Ashford.

Relief crews were sent out from Sevenoaks and Thames-side at 12.30 am on Sunday and the fire was finally brought under control at 12.38am.

However, there was still a lot of fire-fighting to be done and relief crews were sent from Maidstone and Larkfield on Sunday morning.

The road was finally reopened at 12.30pm and fire crews left the scene by 1.30pm. The cause of the blaze is not known.
