A Kent footballer has regained conciousness a week after being injured in a Blue Square South game.
Striker Mikel Suarez clashed heads with a Tonbridge Angels team-mate when they both went for a header in the game against Farnborough.
The 26-year-old has been in intensive care since suffering a head injury in the collision with team-mate Lee Browning during the second half of the 4-1 Blue Square Bet South defeat at Farnborough.
Both players were carried off and taken to hospital, with Browning released later in the evening after also being treated for a head wound.
Mikel's family have flown over from Spain to be at his bedside.
A message from club chairman Steve Churcher on the Tonbridge Angels' website said: "I am pleased to advise that the Club has received confirmation that Mikel regained consciousness yesterday evening (Friday) and
whilst it is still early days, it is seen as a positive step forwards.
"The Club have been overwhelmed with messages of support for Mikel from wellwishers across the country which proves we are all one big footballing family!"
Tonbridge Angels are due to play Bath City at the Longmead Stadium this afternoon.
