MITSUBISHI'S Shogun Sport, with a new uprated Step III 2.5 diesel and four modified 3 litre V6 petrol engines, is available with no increase to current prices. Shogun Sport sales have increased this year by a massive 46.5 per cent over 2000. The car meets the continuing demand for a sporty yet comfortable SW with the ability to seat five people, accommodate their luggage and adapt for lifestyle purposes.
Mitsubishi's offering for the SW-II sector has grown in popularity this year and it currently has a 15.6 per cent sector share for the year, while September figures show that it has a 20.24 per cent sector share, second only to the Nissan Terrano II.
The revised four-cylinder in-line 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine delivers exceptional low-end torque equating to 177 lb ft at just 2,000 rpm, thanks to its long-stroke design and twinscroll turbocharger with intercooler. Mitsubishi's Silent Shaft technology ensures smooth engine performance rivalling that of a petrol engine.
A variable nozzle turbocharger also boosts top-end power by a healthy 16 per cent, which has resulted in an improved power output of 114 bhp at 4,000 rpm (previously 98 bhp at 4,000rpm). The 2.5 engine produces excellent fuel economy to give an extra urban fuel consumption figure of 31.4 mpg (Equippe model) Ð an increase of over five per cent.
The Shogun Sport is fitted with a robust 4WD system, similar to that of the L200 Double Cab. It is available in three trim levels, Classic, Equippe or Elegance, with prices starting at £19,000 for the 2.5 TD Classic.
