Chatting from her home on a hill opposite the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, Lauren Bennett’s life is pretty rock and roll.
Then again, that is unsurprising after spending four weeks at number one in the UK singles chart as a singer on electro pop duo LMFAO’s track Party Rock Anthem.
The singer, from The Valley near Culverstone, appears in a silver Union Flag dress on the video for the song which was finally knocked off the top spot by Bruno Mars last week.
The road to being part of the single started after she joined LMFAO on their Party Rock Tour of the US last year.
“They are really a lot of fun” said Lauren, 21. “They like to go out and get drunk and have big parties. There are always lots of people around.
“I was in Boston for Christmas and they called me up and asked if I could be on their song. I said yes and they said 'OK, we need you to do this right now.’
“So I found this studio in Boston, and they called me saying what they wanted it to sound like. I did it, sent it and that was it.”
Except that wasn’t it. A few days later Lauren was being asked to join the boys to promote the single. A few months later it was number one in the UK.
Lauren has also appeared on the remix of Will.i.am’s single I Got It From Mama and Cee Lo Green’s album track Love Gun.
The former Meopham School pupil’s career began with an audition on X Factor in a duo called Fusion but they failed to get past the bootcamp stage.
The journey was not in vain, though, as she got a call to audition for girl group Paradiso Girls who were being put together by Robin Antin, who discovered the Pussycat Dolls.
Designed to be the European version of the American girl group, the band failed to chart in the UK but, through them, Lauren made her contacts with LMFAO.
Despite her glamourous image, Lauren insists she is a tomboy at heart.
“Growing up in The Valley is not a place to be a girly girl. If you walk around there in fancy skirts you get laughed at.”
Now after her single success she is working on her solo debut album with Robin Antin and producers Nephew.
