A VAN driver had a shock today after leaving his vehicle to call for breakdown assistance.

While he was away finding a phone, an engine fault sparked a fire which destroyed the vehicle.

Two fire engines were called to the incident on the old Thanet Way at Whitstable at about 6.50am after more water was needed. No one was hurt.
