A MAN suffered multiple injuries when his van left the road and crashed into the living room of a house in Romden Lane at Smarden, near Ashford.

An elderly woman who was in the house, Betty Hall, is lucky to be alive. She was trapped under the vehicle's bonnet but escaped unhurt.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the scene at the three bedroom 16th century home of Betty and Roger Hall on Monday morning.

Both Mrs Hall and the driver were taken to hospital. Mrs Hall was released after treatment for shock.
