Vandals sink boat at sailing club

ONE boat was sunk, another was written off and a third is missing after vandals struck at a Kent sailing club.

Police say the first boat at the Blue Circle Sailing Club in Cliffe was sunk deliberately after holes were punched in the hull. It is thought the third boat may also have sunk.

Damage estimated at £400 was caused one boat, a white wooden dinghy in the incident, which took place between Sunday, April 8 and noon on Monday, April 16. That boat is a write-off.

£2,000 worth of damage was also caused when a large lump of concrete was dropped onto a fibreglass dinghy.

Club secretary Mike Kent said: "We are upgrading the CCTV on the site and hope this will prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future."

PC Stephen Eriksson, who is investigating the case, said it was an act of "mindless vandalism".

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01634 792521 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
