VAUXHALL'S Agila mini MPV has been named as the greenest MPV on the road by the Environmental Transport Association.

In its 11th annual survey, ETA's CarBuyers’ Guide looked at a range of environmental factors including fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

The Agila 1.0i 12v impressed judges with its frugal fuel consumption - achieving a combined figure of almost 44.8 mpg.

The 1.0i engine also scores because its CO2 emissions figure of 154 g/km is low enough to qualify for a reduced rate VED of just £120 per year.

Runner-up in the super-mini category was the Vauxhall Corsa 1.0i, which impressed with its CO2 figure of just 135 g/km and combined fuel consumption of 50.4 mpg. Next month, Vauxhall launches the super frugal Corsa ECO, set to impress environmentalists even further with its ultra low 118 g/km CO2 emissions and amazing fuel economy.

Kevin Moxey, Vauxhall’s executive-in-charge of corporate and environmental planning, said: "Our Agila packs a comfortable four-seater into a practical and frugal body. The ETA judges’ decision emphasises that in many of our cities where air quality is a major concern, the Agila literally shows the competition a clean pair of heels."
