Verdicts have been delivered this afternoon on four Whitstable men on trial for various charges including attempted murder.

After deliberating for a day and a half the jury at Canterbury Crown Court cleared Lee Dryburgh, 25, of St Mary's Grove, and Alfie Rossiter, 19, of St Andrews Close, of attempting to murder James Middleton in Whitstable last year.

Mr Dryburgh was also acquitted of two alternative wounding charges and violent disorder.

Rossiter was convicted of wounding Mr Middleton intending to cause grievous bodily harm and violent disorder.

Also convicted of violent disorder was Oliver Stratton, 21, of West Cliff but aqcuitted was Tyrone Court, 19, of St Patricks Close.

The jury will return tomorrow to continue deliberating on a fifth man, Jim Chambers, 20, of Walmer Road, Whitstable who has been convicted of violent disorder but verdicts are still awaited on charges of sexual assault, attempted murder, wounding with intent and wounding.

The offences arose out of two incidents in Whitstable in May when a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and Mr Middleton later repeatedly stabbed.

The trial continues.
