A young man has told a court how he chased a knifeman who had repeatedly stabbed him as he sat in his car in Rochester.

Jack Cousins said his "adrenalin was high" and he could not feel any pain - despite suffering four wounds - as he ran bare-chested and blood-stained through the streets looking for Zac Wallace.

Wallace, it is alleged, stabbed Mr Cousins through his open car window in the early hours of July 23.

He is also said to have bitten Mr Cousins on the arm as he tried to wrestle the kitchen knife from him.

A jury at Maidstone Crown Court was told Mr Cousins was stabbed in his upper right chest and his lower stomach.

He was also "sliced" beneath his eye and stabbed in the leg as he tried to get out of his car and away from 21-year-old Wallace, it was said.

"It all happened so quick it was unreal," Mr Cousins explained. "I didn't have a chance. I didn't know what was going on. I grabbed his hand and there was a battle as to who was going to get the knife. I was pulling him towards me because I didn't want him to be able to lunge at me.

"So, I'm pulling and pulling him and the knife was in my face and it sliced me under my eye."

Mr Cousins said he was then stabbed in the leg as he tried to escape across the passenger seat.

He said Wallace eventually fled, with Mr Cousins and two friends chasing him.

"My adrenalin was high and I was in shock. I didn't feel that I had been stabbed. I couldn't feel any pain but blood was pouring everywhere."

Mr Cousins believed at the time that Wallace, of Thorold Road, Chatham, was dating his ex-girlfriend.

Simon Shannon, prosecuting, said there was "really bad blood" between the two, with the "unpleasantness and animosity" evident in Facebook exchanges.

"On July 23 Zac Wallace carried out one of his threats to Jack Cousins and stabbed him several times," he added.

"Mercifully, although the injuries caused a lot of blood and Mr Cousins to pass out, they were not serious."

Wallace denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent and having an offensive weapon.

The trial continues.
