Victim in village 'weapons attack' released from hospital

One of two men injured in an alleged attack involving a handgun has been released from hospital.

Police were were called to Smeeth, near Ashford, at around 2.30pm yesterday following reports of an attack on two men.

Both victims were found at an address in the village suffering head injuries.

Police confirmed a metal bar and a handgun were used in the incident, but that no shots had been fired at the public.

Armed police conducted searches of the area using dogs and a helicopter, and arrested three men at an address on Sir John Moore Avenue in Hythe later that day.

One of the men has been released without charge, and two others are being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

One victim was taken to hospital for treatment under police guard, but has since been released.

Ashford police said this was an isolated incident, and they were confident they had those responsible in custody.

There was also a road accident on the A20 involving three cars, which is thought to be linked to the incident, but no one was hurt in the collision.
