PAUL BETTS: Ecstasy claimed his daughter's life

PAUL Betts, the father of Leah Betts who died as a result of taking Ecstasy on her 18th birthday, is visiting Thanet to talk about the danger of drugs.

He has accepted an invitation from John Mathews, head teacher of Chatham House Grammar School, Ramsgate, to talk about his personal experiences and about what happened to his daughter at her party in Essex in November 1995.

He will talk to year 9 and year 10 boys from Chatham House and girls from Clarendon House Grammar School, Ramsgate, on April 1 and 2. He will also hold an evening session for parents from 7pm on Tuesday, April 1. All talks will be held at Chatham House.

Mr Mathews said: “Mr Betts is flying down from Scotland where he now lives and we are privileged that he has agreed to talk to our young people.

“I am sure that he will paint a stark and very real picture of what can happen when drugs are misused. I hope that families will attend the evening session to help ensure that their children do not fall victim to drugs.”
