A six-week battle to get potholes repaired along a main road has ended in victory for a determined pensioner.
Ramon Barnett, 71, counted some 50 pot holes along Warden Bay Road, Warden Bay, which he reported to Kent Highway Services in June.
He said that traffic-calming obstacles on the road made the potholes particularly difficult to avoid.
Mr Barnett, of Emerald View, Warden Bay, said that after several calls to Kent Highway Services about the problem nothing had been done despite more than 11,000 potholes being repaired elsewhere in the county during a blitz of the roads.
It was not until he managed to speak to Kent Highway Service’s managing director, Geoff Mee, that shortly afterwards the holes were filled in prompting him to urge others with the same problem to persevere.
He said: “The repairs were done very quickly after I had managed to get through to the right person and it just goes to show that you have to keep on and eventually you can get things done. I am saying to people who have got bad pot holes in the road not to give up.”
Mr Barnett said he was surprised that nobody else seemed to worry about the pot holes that were on the main route into the village.
He said: “I was the only one who kept on to get things done, I can’t believe people would drive over them with the damage they must have done to the cars. They have been repaired properly now and should last a few years.”
Kent Highway Services’ head of community operations Kim Hills said: “Warden Bay Road has received a lot of attention from Kent Highway Services. Our road workers have been out several times to repair potholes as part of our programmed work.
“In addition to the reported faults, they have taken the opportunity to repair a number of holes when they have found them.”
