Two military brothers have been united in grief at the funeral
of their other brother, who was killed while tackling a suicide
bomber in Afghanistan.

Rifleman Daniel Holkham was a member of the 3rd Battalion, The
Rifles, serving with 3 Rifles Battle Group when he was killed last
month.

The 19-year-old's brothers, Matthew and Andrew, acted as
pallbearers alongside four comrades at the service at All Saints'
church, Eastchurch, on the Isle of Sheppey.

Rifleman Holkham was buried at the church with full military
honours, including a three-shot rifle salute.

Hundreds of mourners lined the route of the funeral cortege
which passed from Sheerness High Street, past Sheppey Academy, the
school Rifleman Holkham attended, before arriving at the church
where it was met by dozens of Royal British Legion veterans.

During the service tributes were paid by family, friends and
fellow soldiers.

Family friend, Ian Maxstead, spoke on behalf of Daniel's parents
after the service.

He said: "It is hard to put in to words the amount of gratitude
for all who have paid their respects to our son on his journey
home.

"We would like to thank everybody for their help and support
over the last few weeks, which have been a very traumatic time for
us all. Without which we would not have coped."
