Grandmother packs up baby
backpacks for Haiti

by Rhona Pinkerton

A Canterbury grandmother is asking you to 'buy one – give one
free' for thousands of Haiti's earthquake victims.

Elizabeth Bibby is hoping to make up and send out backpacks full
of baby goods to the estimated 35,000 mums-to-be on the
Caribbean island.

The 49-year-old has already secured donations from some
supermarkets but wants individuals to make the most of promotional
offers and instead of keeping free items, give them away to her
campaign.

She's hoping to work with aid agencies to distribute the
backpacks to those that will need them in the earthquake-hit
country.

It was the birth of her fifth grandchild that prompted her act
following the disaster scenes on television.

Goods can be donated at the following locations: Sainsbury's
Supermarket, Kingsmead Road, Canterbury and The Carphone
Warehouse at Wincheap, Canterbury.
