Video: Horse Refuge struggles to stay open

Sitting tight - that's what volunteers are doing at The Horse Refuge after failing to raise £600,000 needed to save it.

The under threat sanctuary, which cares for 52 sick and abused horses, should have been evicted by midnight on Friday.

But so far nothing has happened.

Staff have chalked up an incredible £300,000 to buy the land - half of what they need.

Owner Sara Ross said she isn't sure what's going to happen next.

"I'm waiting for everything to unfold," she said. "I genuinely don't know what action is going to be taken next really.

"I'm feeling much more positive that I was. I became a pathetic wailing wall, I couldn't look at the animals.

"I was absolutely beside myself. But I'm positive we are going to get there. I really believe we can do it."

If they can't raise £600,000 to buy the land, their 52 horses face a bleak future.
