L Cpl Adam Devine, 24, will form part of a quick reaction force in Musa Qaleh in northern Helmand province.
He joined the Army six and a half years ago and now serves as a member of the 1st Battalion of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment.
For L Cpl Devine, who has a two-year-old son Zack, it will not be his first visit to the war-torn country.
He said: “I am really looking forward to it. I want to get out there and get going. We have done a lot training and we are ready to go.
“I have done two tours of Afghanistan before and now I am looking forward to getting a suntan.
“I think my mum is a bit concerned but I have done a tour of Bosnia and two of Afghanistan so I think she has got used to it now.”
