Cat makes it home after
being beaten

A family are in a state of shock after finding their
beloved pet cat on the doorstep, beaten almost to death.

The tortured pet managed to summon the strength to drag itself
to the safety of her Gravesend home despite suffering appalling
stab wounds and a broken leg.

The mottled moggy is now making a slow recovery at her Harden
Road home with owner Sasha Bell and her two children.

"She dragged herself to the door but couldn't even climb up the
steps," said single mum Sasha. "It was just heart-breaking seeing
this beautiful, affectionate animal in such agony.

"She was screaming in pain and blood was coming down the back
leg."

Miss Bell, 29, said an examination by a PDSA vet indicated
Cleo had suffered stab-like wounds and also a broken front
leg.

Cleo, described as loving and trusting who would approach
strangers for a pat on the head, had to have a metal plate inserted
to replace a broken leg bone.

The animal is now on three types of medication, including
painkillers, and it remains doubtful if she will ever walk on all
fours again.

Miss Bell says one of her children, three-year-old Kira-Ellise ,
was so distraught when Cleo returned, she did not want to go to
nursery that day.

"She just cried her eyes out and my 11-year-old son was just as
upset. How could anyone hurt such a harmless, sweet creature?,"
Miss Bell added.

"If they're capable of doing that what other misery are they
likely to inflict?"

She said before the attack Cleo was very much like a dog,
excited to accompany them all the way to shops at Lawrence Square,
and then back home again.

"She was very trusting with people especially children but
since, whatever yob hurt her, she keeps away even from my own
children, and only comes to adults for comfort.

"The whole thing has scarred the entire family."

Miss Bell plans to report the matter to the police and
RSPCA.
