Oddities including an alligator’s head said to have been found in the sewers of Maidstone, and a year’s worth of back hair shavings were just some of the things on show at the Aylesford Festival.

They were in the "World's Strangest Things" tent with other rarities such as a human bone that had been used as an ice skate and a mummified hedgehog.

Kent Messenger Group president Edwin Boorman, who judged the competition, chose an extensive family tree as the winner.

About 4,500 people flocked to Forstal Recreation Ground for the festival, which was sponsored by the KM and Sainsbury's and opened by Chatham and Aylesford MP Jonathan Shaw.
