Villagers' second lorry protest

HEAVY lorries using narrow streets have force angry villagers to take action for a second time.

People from Yalding and Laddingford will be at the Yalding end of The Lees on Sunday to demand that HGVs weighing more than 17 tonnes should be re-routed away from their streets.

The protest, including the launch of a poster campaign, starts at 11.30am when villagers will be able to sign a petition calling on Kent County Council to impose the ban.

Last week, Yalding Parish Council chairman Cllr Geraldine Brown accused KCC highway chiefs of "whitewashing" villagers’ demands and called on residents to show their feelings by joining Sunday’s protest.

Sunday’s rally is the villager’s second this year. In March, almost 150 protesters took to the Lees area armed with banners calling for a 17-tonne weight limit.

Protestors can also arrange to sign the petition by calling Cllr Brown on 01622 814222
