A MARRIED couple were both badly hurt and robbed when they were attacked while on their way home from a local pub.
Police say the incident unfolded as the 46-year-old woman and her 50-year-old husband took a shortcut via an alleyway between Borstal Street and Sidney Road, Borstal, near Rochester, shortly after 8pm last Sunday.
As they were passing close to St Matthews School they became aware of two other people.
The husband was struck hard on the head and tripped up. His wife was pushed onto her knees. There was a struggle as the two thugs wrestled the woman’s bag away from her.
Police spokeswoman Tessa Hallet said: "The bag contained a significant amount of cash, bank cards, mobile phone and house keys.
"The couple were both badly injured, receiving facial cuts and bruising and were treated for these injuries and for shock at Medway Maritime Hospital."
The handbag was found the next morning nearby by a woman walking her dog.
Det Con Chris Dovey, who is investigating the incident, said: “It all happened very quickly and, as it was dark and the alley unlit, police do not have a clear description of the assailants. But we believe that a man and a woman may have been responsible for this unprovoked and violent attack."
