THE effects of worn tyres, defective brakes and failing batteries can be disastrous when combined with wet and icy weather. An unchecked car in the winter months particularly could mean horrific expense rather than a prudent saving.

ATS Euromaster is offering a free 10 point winter safety test. This test has been especially enhanced and covers a list of key points to help ensure that customers' cars are ready to survive the winter months:

* Tyres - check for damage, condition, tyre tread depth and tyre pressure.

* Windscreen - clean and debug.

* Screenwash - check and refill.

* Battery condition - check and advise on condition.

* Engine oil - check and report.

* Coolant - check and report on level.

* Shock absorbers - check and advise on condition.

* Exhaust - check and report on system.

* Lights - check and advise operation of external lights.

* Brakes - primary brakes inspection of discs, pads, callipers, master cylinder and brake fluid level.
