POLICE have revealed that a voice was heard calling for help shortly after a 24-year-old man went missing after a night out in Kent.
Father-of-two Christopher Lawless disappeared in the early hours of Saturday and fears continue to grow for his safety.
Mr Lawless, from Mottingham in south east London, had been at the Amadeus night club in Chariot Way, Strood, near Rochester before he vanished. He was reported missing at 2.40am.
On Friday it emerged that a voice was heard calling out "help" at around 3.20am on that morning. Police and the Coastguard were called to the area but found nothing.
Since then, an extensive search has been carried out of the surrounding area, close to the Medway Valley Park, including a helicopter and police dogs.
On Wednesday, members of a police diving team checked a stretch of the River Medway which Mr Lawless may have passed after leaving the club but that search also drew a blank.
Ch Insp Iain Mackenzie, who is leading the search, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help us locate Christopher.
"He is not in any trouble. We just want to make sure he is safe and well. He has not made contact with his girlfriend or family since his disappearance and they are concerned for his welfare.
"At present there is no explanation for Christopher's disappearance. He has never gone missing before and it is out of character for him not to return home after an evening out."
Mr Lawless is white, of stocky build with short brown hair. He was wearing a blue jumper with diamonds in a "Pringle" style on it. He also wore brown boots with ankle straps.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 792524.
