People have been advised not to pick up suspicious objects after a suspect package alert at Whitstable Harbour.
Workers were evacuated on Thursday after the device was delivered to the coastguard's office with a note saying: 'it might be dangerous'.
The item was believed to be a mortar head fuse.
Part of the harbour was sealed off and bomb disposal experts were called.
Coastguard rescue officer and foreshore manager Matt Stickels said: "Someone brought it to our offices at the harbour at 9am.
"It was in a carrier bag with a note telling us 'it might be dangerous'."
Mr Stickels added that he would urge people not to pick up or move suspicious objects.
He said: "If you think it is something suspicious, contact 999 and ask for the coastguard."
Workers from Brett Aggregates, the harbour office and Cardium Shellfish were evacuated for about an hour.
