A severe weather warning has been issued for heavy rain and storms in Kent.
The Met Office says isolated thunderstorms are "likely" to develop across the country on Thursday morning - but the worst conditions will miss many places.
Where they do develop, forecasters say intense downpours - which could flood roads, homes and businesses - are likely.
Lightning and hail could also present a hazard.
The chief forecaster said: "25 to 30mm of rain may fall within an hour, perhaps 50mm in three hours, however such totals are likely to be very isolated, with many places staying dry.
"Some intense showers and thunderstorms may continue overnight into Friday morning before clearing into the North Sea."
The yellow "be aware" warning is in place from 6am on Thursday until 2am on Friday.
