Met Office issues severe weather warning for strong wind in Kent

Kent is set to be battered by "very strong wind" this afternoon as gusts of up to 70mph sweep across the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, which is in place until 5pm.

A spokesman said: "A brief spell of very strong winds is expected as a line of heavy rain moves eastwards over the UK during Thursday afternoon.

"Whilst most places will miss the worst a few spots may see gusts in excess of 70 mph."

There could be delays on the roads and railways caused by falling trees and debris.

However, the strongest winds are said to be very localised, so many places will not see disruption.
