Our pleas were ignored and now someone has paid the ultimate price.

That is what a resident who lives near the scene of a fatal crash in Kent has said today.

A man was killed when his Yamaha motorcycle was involved in a collision with a BMW 4x4 on the A261 London Road at Hythe at around 8am.

Lisa Charles lives no more than 50ft from where the incident happened and has been campaigning for safety measures to be brought in on the road since she moved into her house two and a half years ago.

She said: "We take our life in our hands when we cross the roads with our children.

"It's very sad because someone’s family has fallen apart - but it could easily have been any one of us."

The crash happened on the first corner of the A261 after London Road turns from a 30mph zone to the national speed limit.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance staff. The road was closed in both directions after the crash.
