Departing striker Andy Pugh has backed Welling to reach the Blue Square South play-offs.

The Wings are now just five points off the play-off places as they enter the final two months of the season.

"I really enjoyed my time at Welling and hope they get into the play-offs," said Pugh.

"Since I've been here that's what Jamie Day has been drumming into the players so why not?"

"The boys will keep giving their all and hopefully they can do it."

Gillingham forward Pugh teamed up with Tom Whitnell to make a formidable partnership during his loan spell at Priestfield.

The pair scored 16 goals between them during their 15 games together and Pugh finally got his hands on the matchball after his hat-trick at Woking in his final game.

"I got the ball in the end," he added. "All the boys signed it as well.

"I'm disappointed to be leaving as I want to be playing, and to play in a winning team is the best way to do it. I've played a lot of football so I've really enjoyed it.

"I got a great reception from the fans. It's always nice when they are singing your name and there's no better way to pay them back than by scoring a hat-trick."
