Welling manager Jamie Day has declared his interest in Maidstone's Nathan Paul.

The Wings boss admitted that he held talks with Paul but revealed that he is far from reaching an agreement.

Paul (pictured), who has previously played for Beckenham, can feature at right-back or right-midfield is Maidstone's longest-serving player. He also turned down a move to Carshalton in March.

Day said: "I spoke to him last week but the problem we are going to have is wages.

"He was on a good wage which is out of our bracket so he is going to have to drop his wages (to sign for Welling)."

Day has been given a boost, however, after Loui Fazackerley declared he was ready to stay at Park View Road after being given a weekend deadline to reveal his intentions.
