Welling boss Andy Ford has vowed to go back to basics after seeing his side ship six goals in their last two pre-season games.

The Wings lost 3-1 at Dulwich on Saturday despite taking an early lead through Jake Hobbs, two days after going down 3-2 at Dartford.

Ford bemoaned his side's defending against Dulwich but insisted that they will get it right for the start of the season.

"All three goals were basic schoolboy errors," said Ford (pictured). "We left people one on one and the basis of good defending wasn't there - I could go through all three goals and pick up errors.

"There are other areas that we need to work on but I need to start from the back and make sure we keep a clean sheet, then we'll have half a chance."

After drawing with Charlton and beating Gillingham, Ford was pleased to see the weaknesses in his squad two weeks before their Blue Square South campaign starts.

"I've learnt a lot," Ford added. "Every game there is a purpose, you can think of it negatively but there's a couple there that I can now say no to.

"It is a worry for me this season. I've got good players in but have spent the money on a few players to the detriment of having a bigger squad in place.

"Sometimes you don't want to sail through pre-season as you can get to the start of the season, hit a problem and then can't deal with it.

"I'd rather find out the problems now so I can sort them out. The Dulwich game showed where we are lacking a little bit and has helped me make a few decisions."
