Welling boss Jamie Day admits that defender Steve King is playing for his future at Park View Road.

King will feature for the Wings in Tuesday's London Senior Cup tie with Croydon Athletic after more than a month on the sidelines with a foot injury.

Since then, Graeme Andrews and Jack Parkinson have been in great form at the back for the Wings - with the club registering five clean sheets in their last eight games.

King played 90 minutes, and scored, for Ryman League Division 1 North Concord Rangers on Saturday after signing dual registration forms.

Whether he remains at Park View Road on a longer basis will depend on whether he can force his way into Day's plans.

"It would be unfair of me just to let Steve King go without seeing him," said Day. "I'll be looking at him in the next couple of weeks and if he is better than what we've got then I'll keep him.

"I will give him a chance like i did everyone else, it's down to him now to get fully fit and get in the team."

Day was delighted with the victory over Worcester on Saturday, which completed Welling's first double of the season in Blue Square South.

The Wings struggled to get going in the first half but Lee Clarke's penalty handed them the points after the break.

Day said: "We didn't play well in the first half but we played a lot better after the break. It wasn't pretty football but we grinded out a win and that's what we needed.

"We didn't like losing in midweek (against Chelmsford) and it was important to get back on the winning trail as soon as possible.

"When we play the teams that are around the bottom that's how they are going to play and we need to deal with that. We want to play nice football but it doesn't always work out like that.

"It's nice to see we are in the top half but I'd stress that we still need to keep getting as many points as possible and try to stay in the top half of the table."
