Andy Pugh’s 17th goal of the season settled the game of the day in Blue Square Bet South in Welling United’s favour.
The Wings took on Farnborough at Park View Road, but there was only one goal to divide the division’s leading scorers.
Pugh (pictured) was sent clear in the 20th minute and, with the assistant referee’s flag staying down, he took his time before coolly beating keeper Michael Jordan.
The visitors could have equalised within there minutes but, having beaten keeper John Whitehouse, Kezie Ibe saw his effort cleared off the line by Graeme Andrews.
Welling lost centre-back Anthony Achempong to injury early in the second half but, while Farnborough had the majority of the possession, it was Welling who created the clearest chances.
Loick Pires showed quick feet before his low drive was beaten away by Jordan, who was then booked for handling outside the penalty area under pressure from Lee Clarke.
Pires had other chances to claim Welling’s second goal, but lobbed his effort wide with Jordan beaten and then shot narrowly over from just inside the penalty area.
Farnborough had a glorious chance to equalise deep into stoppage time, but sent a free header over the bar, and then Pires had a goal disallowed for a push with what proved to be the final action of the game.
