Goals from Andy Pugh and substitute Jake Hobbs handed Welling a fourth straight Blue Square South win on Tuesday night.
New Wings boss Jamie Day left himself on the bench and it proved the right decision as Sam Hurrell and Lee Clarke both impressed in midfield while Loui Fazackerley and Tony Finn created havoc down the wings.
But it was in defence where Welling really impressed. Jack Parkinson and Graeme Andrews stood strong against a physical Hampton attack while keeper Charlie Mitten has now gone nearly 400 minutes without conceding a league goal.
Welling got off to a perfect start when Pugh put them ahead inside 12 minutes with his second goal in as many games. A well-worked free-kick saw Michael Deane pull the ball back and Pugh found space in the box to fire home.
It could have been more as keeper Matt Lovett was at full stretch to deny Fazackerley while more good forward play from Deane saw Clarke volley just wide from the edge of the area.
Finn had a free-kick beaten away at the start of the second half before Pugh fizzed a shot over the bar. Pugh was somehow booked for diving with 20 minutes left when he was clearly tripped 25 yards from goal.
Hampton substitute Ian Hodges, who was lucky to stay on after picking up a caution for a foul on Andrews, twice failed to equalise when well-placed.
An equaliser would have been harsh on Welling, who wrapped the points up in stoppage time when Finn opted against keeping the ball in the corner and instead set up Hobbs to sweep home from 10 yards.
