Welling overcame a youthful Arsenal XI on Saturday with a glittering display at Park View Road.

A crowd of 1,803 saw three second-half goals for the Wings see off Liam Brady's side, which contained the likes of Gavin Hoyte, Mark Randall and Jay Simpson.

Delighted Welling boss Jamie Day said: "I was really pleased with the performance from our players.

"I'm grateful to Arsenal for coming down and helping us raise some money. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the day."

Arsenal took a 16th-minute lead through Hoyte, when he scored from 15 yards after Randall's shot from a half-cleared corner was blocked. Within seconds, Wings keeper John Whitehouse produced an amazing one-handed save to turn over Jernade Meade's effort.

At the other end, Tom Whitnell saw his lob come back off the bar before Loick Pires won a penalty after he was bundled over in the box. The summer signing from Leyton Orient took the spot-kick himself and sent keeper James Shea the wrong way.

Welling again hit the woodwork on the stroke of half-time as Day's right-foot curler came back off the crossbar.

Both sides made changes after the break but it was Welling who looked fresher and they went ahead on 64 minutes when substitute Joe Healy set up strike partner Luis Cumbers for a tap-in.

Fazackerley followed up Martin John's low drive to scored the third five minutes later and it was 4-1 with 17 minutes left when Daryl Robson fired home from the edge of the penalty area.
