Welling secretary Barrie Hobbins has insisted the club's financial plight has not dampened his enthusiasm for the game.

Hobbins, who founded the club in 1963 with his late brother Graham, faces a race against time to pay nearly £90,000 to HMRC.

But, despite admitting he is willing to step aside to ensure the club's long-term future, he insists that he wants to stay at the helm if possible.

"I've got no less enthusiasm now than I had 47 years ago," he said. "All I've said is that if someone comes in and doesn't want me around then I'd understand that.

"The load is very much and maybe we can put a restructuring process in place that the club needs as sometimes it can get too much for us.

"The club could be restructured but there's a lot of hard work ahead for all of us."

He added: "The support we've had already has been excellent but people need to keep coming up with ideas.

"There's already various fundraising ideas being put in place but longer-term we need to generate more revenue."
